Innovative And imaginative Designs

FLYING CARS Civilization as we know it has changed.
The time is finally here. You know, it seems like it was so long ago when it happened, that we sometimes forget how important it was. I am talking about an event that only happens once every 1000 years. Not too long ago, we celebrated a New Years Day that saw the dawn of, not just a new century, but the beginning of a brand new millennium. Welcome to the 21st Century.
Didn’t you think that things would be a little different by now? Maybe more…I don’t know…futuristic? What ever happened to the Jetson’s? They had robotic servants, that would do the cooking and cleaning for the family, and of course, everyone remembers that they were driving flying cars. Well, we’ve been working on robots for years, and likewise we have been working on flying cars for years, so why don’t we have these things yet?
Someone once told me that we don’t have flying cars, because we don’t need these things yet. They are not a necessity. Well…don’t get me started on all of the luxuries that we enjoy, that we really don’t need. Don’t get me started on all of the assets that we have the privilege of benefiting from. Furthermore, nothing new is a necessity. That’s not so hard to understand, because after all, for humanity to survive, we don’t need cars, but, in many societies, they have become nearly indispensable. We didn’t need cars until we invented them. Similarly, some people can’t see why we need flying cars, so I will give you some reasons why I think we should have them.
Transportation technology has shaped, and reshaped our civilization in many ways. Let’s climb the ladder of civilization again, but this time we’ll be using transportation. Through most of our history we relied on our own muscles to get us to where we were going. We used our own feet to push us in the direction that we were going, until the domestication of animals, which greatly improved transportation by using animal’s feet to get us to where we were going. The invention of the wheel significantly enhanced transportation, and is often recognized as one of the primary indicators of human intelligence. Soon, horse-drawn carriages took us to places far away from home. Humanity survived a very long time, and spread far and wide, using only these limited means of transportation.
When we explored the rest of planet for the first times, we used huge ships that sailed the oceans, harnessing the power of the wind and the water, to take us to new, undiscovered worlds. The railroad dramatically changed the face of nations, as tracks, consisting of steel rails, usually fastened to wood or concrete ties, lay from one side of a continent to the other. The horseless carriage also changed the landscape of entire nations, as we build more roads to accommodate this new form of transportation, which allowed for more ease when traveling from one place to another, and tied the people of country closer together. These methods let people get to far off places, easily, by land.
As you know, automobiles brought forth a new era in technology, and dramatically sped up our daily lives. Before the automobile, it would take a very long time to get from one place to another. So, for example, if you had to go to a neighboring town to get something that wasn’t provided in your own community, you had to take trip which might take a whole day, or maybe even a few days to get what you needed. With the invention of the automobile, what might have taken an entire day to accomplish, could be done in a fraction of the time. We could now get a lot more accomplished within a shorter time, and people began to demand a more fast-paced way of life.
Humanity has always dreamed of flying, and we gave birth to countless crafts that were designed to let us harness the power of flight, but it wasn‘t until the world famous voyage of the Wright brothers, that humanity climbed that step on the ladder of civilization. Today, most airplanes are vehicles with wings, and a big jet engines, or propellers, that are heavier than air but are still able to fly. This technological advancement lets us go anywhere, almost anytime, faster than we have ever gone before. So, a trip that might have taken a 30 hour drive, would only take a 3 hour flight. Millions of flights take place every year.
Every single advancement in transportation technology has aroused a new expansion of complexity within society, raising the standard of civilization. However, technological advancement is not equal throughout the world, and therefore some countries have very sophisticated and highly developed modes of transportation, other nations have nothing. In Resolutionism, it is our goal to make all things uniform and equal, and then to improve all of those methods together. The United Earth will make sure that all of world will have access to these systems of transportation, and in doing so, the world will become increasingly more inter-connected.
Again, we have to start thinking creatively, and we have to try to imagine new or improved ways for us to travel, by land, by water, and by air; to explore, to take us to places that we’ve never been, or just to get us there quicker. Just like before, this new transportation technology will lead us to a higher step on the ladder of civilization. By using a more efficient and more powerful energy source, we could combine airplanes and automobiles, to create flying cars that would literally take us anywhere we wanted to go, faster than we have ever gone before. The UE could help provide us with this new advancement. In this, the 21st century, we have the ability to combine breakthrough propulsion physics and sophisticated computer technology, to take us to new heights, with a Pivoting Vertical Take-Off and Landing system (PVTOL), and advanced global telematics systems (GTS), and infrared solar cell battery power.
Computer systems within the flying car could control and monitor all of the machines systems, from A-Z, from basic aero-dynamics, to zero gravity, to flight planning. If we started using a system of satellite guided networks, like the GPS, and navigational beacons to monitor and guide the flight trajectory, we could program all cars, flying, or otherwise, to act as an autonomous pilot, which totally controls the vehicle. This ensures less pilot error. It’s that simple.
Another necessary navigational feature would be proximity sensors and radar. The on-board navigation systems will have sensitive monitoring equipment that communicates the distance and bearing of everything around you. When approaching any object, such as another flying car, light towers, telephone polls, buildings, or a much bigger mass, such as a mountain range, or even the ground, these flying cars would direct a new path away from the object. If you are flying too low, these flying cars wouldn’t let you hit the ground. The sensors would know to lift up, away from danger.
Another vital characteristic about the flying car would be the “Home” feature. The flying car should always know where home is, and it should always have a program to get you home safely and timely. This feature would recognize your voice pattern, and when you say “home” the car would make a flight pattern to take you home from wherever you are. The “Landing Pad” feature could also come with a flying car, which would land the car smoothly and automatically, through a communication system which links to the flying car, slowing the rate of descent, operating the landing gear, and a system of magnets would pull the flying car down in to the right spot, every time. We can help make sure that from now on, people can get home safely.
ACTION and REACTION
Well, there will be a few people that are going to have a problem with all of this. First of all, the automobile market is again going to have to compete with innovative technology, that they can’t, or won’t adapt to. The automobile market is already at the top of the list, when you think about cost vs. consumer. Everyone’s heard the stories of big car companies settling law suits instead of fixing their broken or tampered machinery. If the cost of settling law suits is lower than the price of recalling every automobile and making them safe, then that is exactly what they will do.
So, for example, you might be out in your Pinto, enjoying a nice drive, but your car might suddenly catch on fire. If you survive, you can sue the company that built the car, and they’ll pay out, settling the lawsuit as quickly and quietly as possible, because the cost of fixing the problem is higher. So, instead of fixing their problems, the automobile industry will try to ignore them. They will continue to ignore the fact that people want change.
With millions of cars on the roads every single day, these flying cars will be a gigantic breath of fresh air. With things like poor city planning, which makes it nearly impossible to get around, and road construction, which slows down travelers, these things create horrible traffic situations, which can escalate the concerns of the dangers of road rage. Frustrated drivers need a break!
Perhaps the biggest problems with this market, are the growing concerns about congestion and safety. On Earth, there are approximately 37,000 car accidents every single day. Can you believe that? That is 13,120,000 car accidents a year. Flying cars will alleviate stress on already too full highways and roads.
Another market that will have a problem with this, is the commercial airline market. They will think that now people are able to take their own flights, so why would they take an airliner? Well, I personally believe that we will always need this market. They provide a service that millions of people use every year, and they try to create a pleasurable experience, at least, once you are in the air. Because we can’t have people freaking out on the airline, they have televisions built into the back of the seats, to keep you informed of things like how far you’ve gone, how far you have to go, how high you are flying, what is the weather like, what is your time of arrival, etc.. Of course, to make you feel more at home, these TVs often have broadcasts of the stations that play your favourite programs, to distract you, relax you, and you keep you calm.
But, why would people ever want to go to an airport? Despite the fact that they have more wonderful shopping enters than some malls, they aren’t very fun. With the super paranoid security that we face every time we go through an airport, it causes more stress than it is worth. How are we supposed to feel relaxed and safe, when there are armed guards with large guns, posted everywhere? Every single person that has been to an airport lately has some kind of horror story, of unnecessary and often irrational security and safety precautions, that actually provoke a sense of fear and danger. Our airports have become unreasonably suspicious of all people, and their thoughts or motives. Flying cars make it possible to be free of this anxiety.
And of course, the people that are going to have the most problem with this, is the fossil fuel industry. The biggest problem with both of the previously mentioned markets, is that the pollution caused by their use of fossil fuel has generously contributed to the growing catastrophe known as global warming. The automobile industry keeps making bigger, faster vehicles that burn more and more fuel, and the airline industry burns more fuel than you could possibly imagine. With the price of gas and oil sky-rocketing, and with the worry about the finitude of petroleum supplies, it would be a wise decision for all of these markets to try something new. It’s time we started adapting our machinery to run on electricity, which is more clean, more efficient, and less expensive than fossil fuels.
A NEW ERA BEGINS
This new technology will revolutionize all kinds of travel, and in a Resolutionist society we must be safe and responsible, so there must be order, or this technology might get out of hand. Long before this technology becomes available for widespread use, the most important and most fundamental use for this technology will be to provide people with assistance and medical aid. So, for example, in the year 2001, in the United States, as many as 2000 cardiac arrest victims died as a result of not being attended to fast enough. A flying ambulance will be able to get to the scene of an emergency much faster than ever before. This will save thousands of lives every year, and I think that is a good enough reason to initiate this program.
Similarly, a fire-truck will be able to put out a fire much faster, if they could get to the emergency faster. This would also save lives. Search and rescue teams will be able to spot missing people faster and easier with the use of flying cars, because of their new ability to cover a much larger area in a shorter amount of time. Law enforcement will also have great advantages by using this technology. A flying police car would be able to overcome limits of the past, and they would be able to apprehend criminals faster and more efficiently.
Next, express delivery services, such as the post office, or courier services, such as Fed-Ex of UPS, would be able to deliver their packages in a more timely manner, if they operated flying delivery trucks. Following that, flying freight class semis would haul large amounts of goods or cargo. This would take those extremely large, often ugly, and sometimes frightening machines off our highways and streets.
Once we have advanced to this point, the streets will already be more safe, and more efficient, and we will have started to become more used the concept of flying cars. It’s not easy to take in. You’ve probably rolled your eyes more than once while reading this section, and that’s ok, because it’s nearly unimaginable, isn’t it? It will take a few years to settle into this achievement, as we learn to adjust to a society of flying transportation, and we do not want to rush into this endeavor at all. We will not force it on anyone, but it is an option that will become available, slowly, as the technology is perfected, and as the people become more comfortable with it.
As soon as we are ready, human delivery services will be offered next. So for example, we would start offering flying limousines, and flying taxis, and flying buses, to make public transportation easier and faster than ever before. Flying services will also be a huge boost for tourism all over the world. Now it will be easier to go your favourite destination sports to enjoy a vacation, and it will be cheaper, safer, and faster to get there. I’d be able to take off in my flying car from here in Canada, fly to South Africa to pick up a friend, and then we’ll go to Paris to do some shopping, swing by Hong Kong for lunch, and then head home to watch the game! This advancement would be the final stage before flying cars become available for more widespread use.
WORLD-WIDE DEVELOPMENT
With all of these advances, soon we can begin widespread use. We will tie the world closer together, and see that it is truly a small world after all. For example, a 30 hour trip by car, driving thousands of kilometers, will now only take 2 hours, and this development will speed up our daily lives again. We will begin to overcome limitations that we had in the past, such as job placement. Many jobs ask you if you would be willing to relocate. Lots of jobs require that you live in the location of the jobsite. Now, you don’t have to move, or live in the location, because the ride to work will be so much shorter. You can live where you want to live. Living hundreds of miles away from the place that you work, will only be a few minute commute.
As we begin to organize, and build this new way of life, we will build highways in the sky. We will invent the Intercontinental Skyway, to be a system of routes that flying cars can take, which will be built right into the flying cars GTS navigational systems. These routes will allow us to fly to other countries, to help reduce flying times, and to keep people from getting lost, or off course. This will also help us avoid “No-Fly Zones,” like military areas (which the GTS navigator knows to avoid anyway) and this will help us monitor the traffic, to ensure the safety of all travelers.
To pilot a flying car, you will need to take a course called “Flyer’s Education.” This will help you understand how to operate a flying car, and how to follow the rules of the sky. You will be tested, and if you pass, then you will get your flyer’s license, and only then will you be able to fly. However, with technology moving so fast, we do require that you retake the test once every 10 years, to make sure that you are still capable of flying, and to make sure that you are kept up to date on all of the equipment, and so on.
Driving a car is not a right; it is not even a privilege. It is not a luxury. Cars are not toys, and they must not be played with. Cars have enormous power, and they can end, or destroy lives, so therefore they must be treated with respect and caution. The same applies to flying cars. Just as there are rules of the road, there are rules of the sky. We come with these rules to ensure that all people are obeying the law, to create order and organization, and mostly to ensure all people’s safety. You have to be smart, capable, and knowledgeable of the machine that you are trying to operate. You must be competent with your skills, and you must fully understand how to operate the machine. Our rules are also more strict. For example, if you ever get caught flying under the influence, (FUI) you don’t just lose your license for a year, you never get it back. Maybe we should have breathalyzers built in, just to make sure that you’re sober before you fly. Maybe we should these in all non-flying cars as well. Flying cars will also help us with our over-population problems, as we can start building cities upward, instead of outward. Remember that we are creating so many new cities all over the world, and this new transportation system will be required and demanded by our ever growing society.
